Sharp. Sanitary design.
Yes, they're lightweight and yes, the handles appear cheap but if you understand why they're made this way you'll love them. Personally, I like the one piece, molded-on plastic handles. This is a very sanitary design because there aren't any crevices of cracks to harbor bacteria and they're dishwasher safe. They are super sharp and last a long time thanks to a decent stainless steel alloy but eventually they will get dull after hard use. I've tried to sharpen them but the steel is very hard so I just buy a new set from time to time because the price here on Amazon is terrific.I feel the only negative is the packaging. I’ve never seen such sharp items shipped with so little concern for protecting those who handle the package. These knives come with, basically, a sticker on both sides of the blades and in a simple bubble envelope. Really cheesy and dangerous packaging in my opinion. A simple flat box would be more protective and more presentable in my opinion.
Victorinox are the best inexpensive Western-style knives in the business, full stop. If you like Western-style knives (mild belly, double-bevel) they're the best bang for your buck out there. These steak knives are no exception.Quality where it counts. These knives have cheap-seeming plastic handles, yet they're textured for good grip. They're also super sanitary. Do anything you want to them - they won't hold bacteria like wood might. The money saved in the handle is put toward higher-quality steel on the end that matters. The overall knife is light but durable, inexpensive but sharp. It's perfect for anyone who mostly only cares about getting a cheap, reliable set of steak knives.I fear a lot of bad reviews right now are people buying from knockoff resellers which are becoming rampant. Make sure you buy an authentic product (fulfilled by Amazon), or at least keep your packaging handy for a return. My last 2 purchases were both exactly the same products and quality as the Victorinox chef knife I've been using for that last... I don't know... 6 years? I'd have to check my order history. It's been forever and I've never had a complaint. I just got the 10" chef knife and the steak knives, and they're all exactly the same quality as the original.
Former Cutco Gal
I married the Cutco salesman many years ago! After losing a few of our knives, I wanted to replace them, but the price was so prohibitive! I tried this brand on a gamble, and I've never been so happy! We have a large butcher knife and we bought this collection of little knives Victorinox as well. They are different, but every bit as good as Cutco in my opinion. They are little bit lighter, but extremely sharp. Worth every penny!
I have not tried these knives yet but the box that the knives were in was opened and there were signs of these knives being returned by someone who used them (dried food on one knife)..I will try them and if I like them I will expect an exchange for new knives...I will follow up with the review later
This is the one
I have bought these knives 3 times so far. They are the best. My daughter who is a chef told me that if she had to have only one knife this would be it. I use them for kitchen prepping, cutting bread, they are great to chop onions and slice tomatoes, I chop salad greens trim fat off meat. I don't even use them as steak knives because I have some that are more fancy, but these are my #1. I originally bought the big set that comes with the chopping block and the 8 steak knives and over the years they disappeared and I replace them. I've had all kinds of knives including Cutco which were over a grand, they're sharp, but they're not as balanced as Victorinox and they don't do prep work as well and don't feel as good in the hand. Great purchase at a great price.
Don't be fooled by the light-weight of these knives. They don't feel like much in your hand, but they cut anything like butter. The serrated blade is symmetric, so they naturally cut straight down (unlike blades that are flat on one side and angled on the other which will naturally cut at an angle). Yes, they're great for steak, but I used them for fruit, vegetables, etc as well.
I have to say that when the knives arrived, the box looked a little shabby, but i opened them, and they appeared to be fine. They did not feel flimsy, but are lightweight and even though so many reviewers raved, I was not sold by their appearance- They looked kind of cheap...but, then I used them...Amazing!! They are so sharp, and well balanced. My sister used them to cut grape tomatoes and she was amazed!!(and she cooks even more than I do) she couldn't get over how easy they cut. All I can say is, if you're not worried about a steak knife looking like a high end utensil, and more concerned about how well it works, look no further, you will love them!
EXTREMELY LIGHTWEIGHT (and sharp).... keep cutting myself!
These are beautiful knives for the $$, and I am quite pleased I purchased them. I must say, however, that because they are SO sharp, and SO lightweight, I keep cutting my thumbs with them. Sounds like "personal problem," but I have never done this on any other knives...... Happy with purchase, just be careful.
Good value for the price
These knives are very sharp. My wife cut her finger within a day of their arrival, always a good indicator in my experience. I love the plastic handles. I have had too many wood handles with rivets come apart after a few years.
A good buy
This brand was recommended by websites that made comparisons. They're easy to handle, and the blades are sharp enough to cut cleanly and easily. They don't have a lot of heft, -- I mean that they feel a little lightweight. That may or may not be a consideration for you.
Wow - sharp
These knives are very sharp, way sharper than the cheaper brand we had before. I was struggling to cut through some pork fat and these just glided right through. For the price they are worth it.
Great knives. Really sharp.
Great knives. All of their products are.
